 LEADERSHIP PROGRAMME
For the first time ever, the XV International AIDS Conference, 11- 16 July 2004 Bangkok, featured a full programme on leadership in response to HIV/AIDS.

Leaders from various sectors and levels from different parts of the world met and made commitments in reversing HIV infection, containing the epidemic and coping with its impact along the following five key areas:

  • Supportive policies
  • Scaled up programme in prevention, care, treatment and impact alleviation
  • Increased financial and human resources
  • Mobilizing other leaders in the response
  • Accountability

The final Bangkok Leadership Statement was presented at the Closing of the Conference by Madam Graça Machel, on 16 July in Bangkok.
