UNAIDS works with a number of outstanding personalities to strengthen awareness on AIDS. The UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassadors are prominent individuals from the world of arts, entertainment, sport and other fields of public life who have expressed their desire to contribute to UNAIDS and to move the AIDS response forward.
UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador Emmanuel Adebayor of Togo is an internationally acclaimed football star of Manchester City and “African Footballer of the Year 2008.” Mr Adebayor uses his sporting popularity to raise awareness about the HIV epidemic globally, including the importance of HIV prevention among young people. He was appointed UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador in 2009.

Through achievements in the world of international sport, he is a role model for many young people and has dedicated time and effort disseminating messages on HIV prevention. UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador Toumani Diabaté of Mali is a globally acclaimed musician and dedicated AIDS advocate who uses his music to empower people and spread HIV awareness messages. Mr Diabaté has participated in various outreach campaigns with the Haut Conseil National de Lutte contre le Sida in Mali. He was appointed UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador in 2008.
