Knowledge Centre

The UNAIDS Knowledge Centre includes a range of resources, developed either by the UNAIDS Secretariat and/or one of our Cosponsors, that capture our experience and learning in our efforts to help the world prevent new HIV infections, care for people living with HIV and mitigate the impact of the epidemic.

These resources - for advocates, policymakers, practitioners, the media, researchers and community members - include HIV data, information on data collection methodologies and tools, publications including reports, evaluations, reflections and Best Practices, media information, stories, multimedia products and Q&A and fact sheets on UNAIDS and AIDS issues.

 

AIDS EPIDEMIC UPDATE 2007

The annual AIDS epidemic update reports on the latest developments in the global AIDS epidemic. With maps and regional summaries, the 2007 edition provides the most recent estimates of the epidemic’s scope and human toll, explores new trends in the epidemic’s evolution. More

THE PROCESS BEHIND AIDS ESTIMATES

As part of continuning efforts to gain a better understanding of the AIDS epidemic, UNAIDS and WHO have taken a series of measures to improve the estimation process. Countries have been encouraged to expand their data collection methods, methodology used to analyse this new data has been improved and a series of workshops have been held to train people in countries in the complex process of estimating the AIDS epidemic. MONITORING COUNTRY PROGRESS

In adopting the 2001 Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS, Member States obligated themselves to regularly report on their progress to the General Assembly. The Secretary-General charged the UNAIDS Secretariat with the responsibility for developing the reporting process, accepting reports from member States on his behalf, and preparing a regular report for the General Assembly.

COUNTRY RESPONSE INFORMATION SYSTEM

The CRIS application was developed in 2002 in response to a need for an information system to assist with UNGASS reporting. It has since been enhanced to support data on programmes and projects, routine monitoring at subnational and facility levels, local system integration, customization, and data exchange. More

Since 2001, the UNAIDS Secretariat have led cutting-edge international work to define and project the developing world’s AIDS financing needs. Successive exercise on the part of UNAIDS-led teams of health economist and epidemiologist have improved and refined the substantive basis for estimates of financial needs.
