- UN Report: Echoing ’97 Asian turmoil, current financial crisis leaves migrants more vulnerable to HIV
- The global economic downturn is having an adverse effect on migrants as they are excluded from stimulus packages and AIDS programmes are threatened, concludes a UN report released at ICAAP. As in the 1997 Asian crisis, negative impacts on health and migration are set to become graver as donor funding and government programmes are cut.

- Morocco: Coming together to strengthen the AIDS response in the workplace
- The world of work is a key arena for successfully challenging the AIDS epidemic. To promote this challenge in Morocco, the Ministry of Employment, in collaboration with the International Labour Organization (ILO) and UNAIDS, hosted a two-day national workshop on HIV workplace programmes in Casablanca at the end of June.
- International Labour Conference tackles HIV in the world of work
- Challenging the AIDS epidemic is high on the agenda of this year’s International Labour Conference. The development of a new international labour standard on HIV and the world of work is one of the key issues being discussed by some four thousand representatives of governments, workers’ and employers’ organizations from 183 states around the world.
- 'Never abandon, never give up’: ILO film helps China’s migrant workers challenge AIDS stigma
- Zhang Xiao Hu is one of China’s estimated 200 million migrant workers. He is also one of the stars of ‘Never abandon, never give up’, a short Charlie Chaplin-style film aimed at reducing HIV stigma and promoting condom use among the country’s migrant workers. Beginning on 4 May, the International Labour Organization (ILO) and Mega-info Media, the company which runs China’s national railway station television network, will begin screening the film in 500 stations in 450 cities across the country. Over a three month period, 40 million people will have an opportunity to see the film.

- The HIV organizational landscape has evolved and grown more complex over the past decade. UNAIDS, donors and civil society, including networks of people living with HIV, have rightly demanded greater clarity on the relationships between needs, financing, activities and outcomes. Also demanded is greater specificity about the role of UNAIDS and the Secretariat within the wider constellation of actors.

- Ajama Kalacha works hard on his small agricultural plot in Ethiopia’s highlands to provide an income for the extended family he supports. Even though life is tough, Ajama is an optimist - his community treats him well and he believes his prospects for making a living from the land are good. But he was not always so confident.
- UNAIDS Committee of Cosponsoring Organizations meet
- The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) brings together the efforts and resources of ten UN system organizations in the AIDS response. The UNAIDS Committee of Cosponsoring Organizations (CCO) serves as the forum for these Cosponsors to meet on a regular basis to consider matters of major importance to UNAIDS, and to provide input from the Cosponsoring organizations into the policies and strategies of UNAIDS.
- ILO and workplace leaders pledge action at ICASA 2008
- On the occasion of the 15th International Conference on AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections in Africa (ICASA), about fifty workplace leaders gathered together on 4 December at the invitation of the International Labour Organization (ILO).

- A consensus is emerging at ICASA that in countries across Africa the private sector needs to work more closely together in order to be successful in responding to AIDS.
- The Life Initiative – Hotels addressing AIDS
- The upcoming International AIDS conference will bring many thousands of delegates and journalists to Mexico from 3-8 August 2008. UNAIDS is involving the Mexican hotel industry in a HIV prevention campaign which will run through out the international conference to raise awareness of HIV prevention and non-discrimination of people living with HIV.
- International labour standard would strengthen the HIV response in the workplace
- To expand and strengthen the role of the workplace in the global response to HIV, the International Labour Organization (ILO), which is a cosponsor of UNAIDS, has recently launched a process to adopt a new international labour standard that sets out basic principles and rights at work.
- New UNAIDS policy on HIV and international labour migration
- International labour migrants bring benefits not only to their families but also to their countries of origin and host countries. Yet this type of work can increase their exposure to HIV. For this reason, UNAIDS, in collaboration with the ILO and IOM, have developed a policy brief focusing on the HIV-related needs and rights of international labour migrants.

- Better policies and practices in the workplace have led to more supportive attitudes towards co-workers living with HIV, the International Labour Organization (ILO) reports in its new publication “Saving lives, protecting jobs”.
- Developing strategies to work with FBOs
- UNAIDS in collaboration with UNFPA, WHO, ILO and UNDP has convened a meeting to outline a strategy for future work with faith-based organizations on AIDS issues.
- European meeting discusses migration, TB and HIV
- Migration, mobile populations and tuberculosis were priority focus areas at the meeting of EU national AIDS Coordinators, organized by the Portuguese Presidency of the European Union. UNAIDS Deputy Director Michel Sidibe stressed that increased action in these areas as vital in the goal of universal access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support.
