The XVI International Conference on AIDS and STIs in Africa (ICASA 2011) opened on Sunday 4 December in Addis Ababa. Delegates from across the world are convening in Ethiopia to discuss the HIV-related challenges faced by Africa, as well as future strategies for consolidation and development of national AIDS responses.

Global Fund implementers meeting: opportunities and challenges

UNAIDS, in collaboration with WHO and Stop TB Partnership, convened a two day consultation with implementers of Global Fund programmes in Nairobi from 3 - 4 November. This consultation was called to create a platform for implementers to discuss the changes taking place within the Global Fund, to help shape this transformation and contribute to the increased ownership and effective implementation of the reforms.

On the eve of the International Forum on Millennium Development Goal (MDG)-6, the Government of the Russian Federation and UNAIDS co-organized a charity soccer match at the Luzhniki Olympic Stadium in Moscow in support of women and children living with HIV in Russia.
UNAIDS Executive Director visits pioneering HIV clinic near St Petersburg

On the first of a four-day mission to the Russian Federation, UNAIDS Executive Director Michel Sidibé and UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador James Chau visited a specialized HIV clinic in Ust-Izhora, a suburb of Saint Petersburg. The UNAIDS delegation toured the facility with its chief physician, Dr Evegeny Voronin, a leading AIDS expert in Russia.
