UN Secretary-General presents progress report on AIDS response

At the 66th session of the General Assembly held on 11 June in New York, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon introduced the 2012 report on the progress made in the implementation of the Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS and the Political Declarations on HIV/AIDS.

In order to help countries produce standardized reports to effectively measure the state of the epidemic, UNAIDS has released the new guidelines on Global AIDS Response Progress Reporting 2012.

Online tool launched for UNGASS 2010 reporting

In order to facilitate the 2010 UNGASS reporting process for countries, UNAIDS launches an online reporting tool. The new tool allows data to be entered over a period of time as and when it becomes available. This allows the information be shared which enables consultation country-wide. It also helps to track any changes in data during data validation. In addition to reporting on progress, countries will be able to enter their own national targets for 2010 and 2015 and can view data from earlier reporting rounds for trend analysis.

Monitoring progress towards global HIV targets

In a supplement of the Journal of AIDS’ December issue published yesterday, UNAIDS explores some of the current challenges to monitoring the progress towards global HIV targets. It explores thematic, technical analysis of data and key findings derived from the United Nations General Assembly Special Session on HIV/AIDS (UNGASS) reporting system.

New Country Response Information System to strengthen national M&E

UNAIDS announces the launch of the Country Response Information System (CRIS) version 3, which is a tool for managing national HIV data. In support of Three Ones principles, and especially the principle of one national monitoring and evaluation system, CRIS3 enables national AIDS authorities to store, share and utilize the national HIV data in an effective manner with national and international counterparts.

More prevention focus needed for the Caribbean to sharpen its response to HIV

Those at highest risk of being infected by HIV in the Caribbean are not generally included at the heart of HIV prevention strategies. This is one of the conclusions of Keeping Score II, a publication launched by UNAIDS Caribbean Regional Support Team recently in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.

The 2008 High-level Meeting on AIDS opens today at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. This is an important forum for government representatives and civil society to review progress made in the AIDS response and to identify the outstanding challenges.
2008 High-Level meeting on AIDS panel discussions

The 2008 High-Level meeting on AIDS begins 10 June at the General Assembly in New York. In addition to the plenary meetings, a series of panel discussions will be held over the next two days. These discussions will cover a range of topics from gender equality to concentrated epidemics and the multigenerational challenge of AIDS. The discussions will be open to representatives of Member States, observers and civil society representatives and presentations will be followed by an interactive dialogue.

Every two years, in compliance with the Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS signed by UN member states in June 2001, countries report to UNAIDS on their progress made in the response to the AIDS epidemic. This year, countries and individuals showed extraordinary personal commitment to this reporting process.

In compliance with the 2001 Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS, countries have submitted their country progress reports to UNAIDS which will assess the state of the global AIDS epidemic in preparation for the United Nations High-level meeting on AIDS that will take place in June in New York.

Keeping Score: AIDS responses in the Caribbean

To demonstrate commitments and progress made by countries in the Caribbean to addressing AIDS, and to highlight programming challenges , the CARICOM based Pan-Caribbean Partnership Against HIV/AIDS (PANCAP) and the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) have launched a comprehensive report on national AIDS responses in the region.
