The Reference Group provides a flexible expert resource reviewing epidemiological data and methods, providing co-ordination for the development of software and analysis of data and a credible, independent point of reference for UNAIDS. The Reference Group provides the relevant technical basis for the UNAIDS global estimates and projections of HIV impact.
The objectives, activities and products of the Secretariat are described fully in the annex at the end of the Request for Proposals in Annext 1 and activities include:
a. Organize, in collaboration with UNAIDS, meetings of the UNAIDS Reference Group on Estimates, Modeling and Projections (approximately two face-to-face meetings and up to a dozen web-based or teleconference-based smaller meetings per year).
b. Write meetings and consensus reports.
c. Develop annual workplan for the Reference Group in collaboration with UNAIDS and base on the recommendations of the Reference Group.
d. Support UNAIDS and Reference Group activities to improve methodologies to produce estimates, including sub-contracting research projects related to improving the assumptions and methods in the models.
e. Maintenance of the website www.epidem.org.
f. Support the production of publications (including bi-annual journal supplements) on the HIV estimates methodology.
g. Facilitate the exchange of documentation, especially of new developments on issues relevant to the work of the Reference Group.
