- In partnership with UNAIDS, the President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame will lead a Heads of State event on HIV and broader development issues at the United Nations General Assembly High Level meeting on AIDS in June.

- Thirty years into the AIDS epidemic, and 10 years since the landmark UN General Assembly Special Session on HIV/AIDS, the world will come together to review progress and chart the future course of the global AIDS response at the 2011 UN General Assembly High Level Meeting on AIDS from 8 –10 June 2011 in New York.
- UN Secretary-General reaffirms commitment to be an activist alongside UNAIDS during visit to headquarters
- United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon paid a visit to the UNAIDS Secretariat headquarters in Geneva on 26 January. He took the opportunity to share his thoughts and vision with staff, and encouraged them to work even harder to “remove the hidden obstacles” in the AIDS response.

- UNAIDS Executive Director, Michel Sidibé, delivered his report to the 27th Meeting of the UNAIDS Programme Coordinating Board (PCB). In his report, Mr Sidibé updated the Board on the Joint Programme’s activities since its last meeting in June 2010. - Sierra Leone wins MDG Award for AIDS response
- At a ceremony on the eve of the 2010 Millennium Development Goals Summit, held in New York from 20-22 September, the Government of Sierra Leone was presented with an MDG Award for its leadership and progress towards achieving MDG 6, to stop and reverse the spread of HIV by 2015.

- Today 300 Heads of States and Governments, chief executives, civil society leaders and Heads of UN agencies participated in the United Nations Private Sector Forum on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), chaired by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
- Financing the health-related MDGs
- On Tuesday 21st September, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria organized an event entitled “Champions for Global Health - Financing the health related MDGs”. The meeting aimed at raising awareness among world leaders attending the MDG Summit as to the linkage between a fully-funded Global Fund and the achievement of the health related MDGs.
