The International Organization for the Francophonie is the institutional mechanism which coordinates political cooperation and institutional relations between states and governments which share the French language and universal values.

The Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and the International Organization for the Francophonie signed a collaboration agreement in December 2009 to joint efforts to respond to the AIDS epidemic in the francophone world.
