The Aid Effectiveness & Country Capacity Division provides support to countries in scaling up effective AIDS responses towards universal access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support. The division provides technical assistance and invests in innovative approaches to strengthening systems and capacities of national partners and the UN system particularly for mobilising resources, efficient allocation of these resources and effective implementation of programmes in ‘making the money work’. It is composed of a Country Capacity, Ownership and Accountability team and a Global Financial Mechanisms and Impact team.

Collaboration with The Global Fund

The Global Fund is an international financing institution that invests the world’s money to support large scale prevention, treatment and care programmes against AIDS, TB and malaria.

Collaboration with PEPFAR

The United States President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, PEPFAR, was launched in 2003 and is the largest effort by a single nation towards a single disease.

Coherent and effective UN action in support of an expanded national response to HIV is promoted through the Joint UN Teams on AIDS.
