The First Lady of Cambodia, Lok Chumteav Dr Bun Rany Hun Sen, has been appointed the National Champion for the UN Secretary-General’s Action Plan for Women’s and Children’s Health.

In a recent visit to the first methadone clinic in Cambodia, United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon praised government authorities and health workers for their efforts to reduce HIV infection and drug-related harm among injecting drug users. Launched in July 2010, the clinic has reached, to date, a total of 61 patients.
Cambodia takes MDG prize for excellence in its AIDS response

At a ceremony held in New York on the eve of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) Summit, the Kingdom of Cambodia was presented with an MDG Award for its outstanding national leadership, commitment and progress towards achievement of Goal 6 and particularly in working towards halting and reversing the spread of HIV.

Handbook on HIV for Parliamentarians developed in Cambodia

Political commitment at the highest level is recognized as a critical factor in Cambodia’s success in creating a supportive legislative and policy environment for the national response to HIV. With support from the National AIDS Authority, the UNDP Legislature Assistance Project of the National Assembly, , Family Health International USAID funded Prasit Project and UNAIDS, a Parliamentary Handbook on HIV has been developed.

‘Love and Relationships’: Film festival in Cambodia addresses HIV prevention

Last month audiences in selected Cambodian provinces had the chance to see the Khmer film Palace of Dreams as part of the ‘Love and Relationships’ film festival sponsored by UNESCO in cooperation with the French Cultural Centre (CCF). This drama, produced in 2008 by BBC World Service Trust, aims at reducing the risk of HIV infection transmission among young people.

Internationally-renowned fashion designer Bibi Russell, along with UNDP and the Modern Dress Sewing Factory (MDSF) in Cambodia, has launched an international designer label “Bibi for WE”.

The ‘Inthanou’ telephone hotline is a free, anonymous and confidential telephone counselling service in Cambodia that provides HIV information, support, counselling and referral.
