- At ICAAP 10 the new study, Secret lives, other voices, was launched. It explores sexuality, gender identity and HIV transmission risk in Fiji, and represents the first research of its kind to be conducted since 1998 among men who have sex with men and transgender people in the country.
- President of Fiji committed to the AIDS response
- In a meeting with the President of Fiji on 27 August, UNAIDS Executive Director Michel Sidibé commended the Fijian leader and his Government for recent amendments to the country’s 2011 HIV/AIDS Decree. Officially endorsed on 25 August, the amendments remove HIV-related travel restrictions and ensure greater protection for the rights of people living with HIV.

- The country launch of the Commission on AIDS in the Pacific Report Turning the Tide: An OPEN Strategy for a response to AIDS in the Pacific took place in Suva, Fiji on 26 April 2010. The report was presented to His Excellency President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau and representatives of the Pacific Regional organisations by Commission Chair and Samoa’s Deputy Prime Minister, Misa Telefoni Retzlaff.
- Fiji first Pacific Island nation with colonial-era sodomy laws to formally to decriminalize homosexuality
- Marking a significant step towards achieving the country’s universal access goals, Fiji passed a law decriminalizing consensual homosexuality through the Fiji National Crimes Decree on 1 February 2010. With this legislation Fiji becomes the first Pacific Island nation with colonial-era sodomy laws to formally decriminalize sex between men.
