The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) welcomes the announcement made by the Rt Hon George Osborne, MP, Chancellor of the Exchequer, that the United Kingdom will meet its target of spending 0.7% of gross national income on international development this year.
UNAIDS publication highly commended by British Medical Association

The British Medical Association (BMA) highly commended the UNAIDS publication AIDS at 30: Nations at the crossroads (AIDS at 30) at their annual Book Awards ceremony held in London on 13 September 2012. AIDS at 30 had been selected among more than 800 books and other documents and was competing in the public health category.
Summit on Family Planning stresses on linkages with HIV services

New report explores implications of tests to estimate timing of HIV infection for criminal prosecutions

The UK charity National AIDS Trust (NAT) launched a report on 4 August 2011 that explores the validity and meaning of Recent Infection Testing Algorithm HIV tests, or RITA tests, within the context of criminal prosecutions of HIV transmission.
Churches called to task on preventing and reducing the impact of sexual violence

The findings from recent research on the role of the church in responding to sexual violence have been presented at an event in London, hosted by the Archbishop of Canterbury. The report, Silent No More, commissioned by the Christian relief and development agency Tearfund, is a self-critical look at the way in which churches have responded to sexual violence in three African countries that have been or are still facing conflict.

International conference on harm reduction in Liverpool

Harm Reduction 2010, the 21st International conference organized by the International Harm Reduction Association is taking place in Liverpool, England from 25 – 29 April 2010. Under the theme ‘Harm Reduction: The Next Generation’, the conference has attracted around 1400 delegates from around 80 countries to share knowledge, network and promote evidence-based best practices in the field of reducing harms from drugs and alcohol.

UNAIDS to receive additional funding from UK
21 August 2009|
UNAIDS and its cosponsor UNFPA have been ranked as best performers in a recent assessment of four UN agencies, including UNDP and WHO, conducted by UK’s Department for International Development (DFID). As a result, both organizations will receive full additional funding to further support projects on the ground.

Cricket stars launch global AIDS campaign

Leading cricketing stars are launching THINK WISE, a new global AIDS awareness campaign designed to provide young people with information about how to protect themselves from HIV. The players will champion the campaign during the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Twenty20 2009, which begins in London on Friday 5 June. This leg of the campaign will aim to improve education and awareness about HIV and eliminate the stigma associated with the disease.

Focus on new HIV prevention technologies

HIV prevention was the focus of a meeting organized by the UK Department for International Development on 4 November in London. Politicians, scientists, international organizations and civil society gathered to evaluate current HIV prevention strategies and assess the steps forward. UNAIDS Deputy Executive Director Michel Sidibe also took part in the meeting.
