Mrs Hind Khatib-Othman, Director, UNAIDS Regional Support Team for the Middle East and North Africa
Mrs Hind Khatib-Othman is Director of the UNAIDS Regional Support Team for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). She joined UNAIDS in November 2009.
Mrs Khatib has long experience in working with governments and counterparts including UN agencies, non-governmental bodies, multilateral and bilateral donors.
Before joining UNAIDS, Mrs Khatib-Othman served as Director for the Eastern Europe & Central Asia, Latin America & the Caribbean, Middle East & North Africa and LFA Management unit at The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (Global Fund). She earlier served as Team Leader for Middle East North Africa and Director of Country Programs ad interim.
Previously, Mrs Khatib-Othman worked with UNICEF for 16 years in progressively more senior roles in a number of regions including the Middle East and North Africa, Europe, and Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
Mrs Khatib-Othman combines her extensive experience in policy development and public health with an academic background in Sociology and Public Administration with a field of specialization in Health Care Services in which she holds a Master degree from University of Southern California, Los Angeles.
As Regional Director for UNAIDS Support Team in the Middle East and North Africa, Mrs Khatib provides strategic vision and direction through direct support to nine country offices and works with partners in twelve countries to optimize their efforts in national responses to AIDS.
Mrs Khatib-Othman also supports and directs a number of specialized advisers in their advocacy and technical work to keep AIDS on top of the political agenda, as well as move forward the AIDS response at the regional and country levels through the mobilization of UNAIDS regional Cosponsors and key regional development partners.
Mrs Khatib-Othman is a Jordanian national married with two children.
