UNAIDS appoints global Indian icon, Mrs Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as International Goodwill Ambassador

On the eve of the 67th United Nations General Assembly, the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) has appointed global Indian icon Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as International Goodwill Ambassador. In her new role she will help raise awareness on issues related to stopping new HIV infections in children and advocate for increased access to antiretroviral treatment.
UNAIDS publication highly commended by British Medical Association

The British Medical Association (BMA) highly commended the UNAIDS publication AIDS at 30: Nations at the crossroads (AIDS at 30) at their annual Book Awards ceremony held in London on 13 September 2012. AIDS at 30 had been selected among more than 800 books and other documents and was competing in the public health category.

The humanitarian crisis in the Sahel is affecting the lives of millions of people across the region. There is a renewed emphasis on condoms at the XIX International AIDS Conference being held in Washington, DC from 22-27 July as a campaign promoting their use and availability. At the conference the CONODOMIZE! Campaign has been re-launched with the distribution of 850 000 condoms. The Campaign aims to highlight the effectiveness of this prevention commodity and calls for greater access to quality condoms as a primary defence against HIV.
