Churches called to task on preventing and reducing the impact of sexual violence

The findings from recent research on the role of the church in responding to sexual violence have been presented at an event in London, hosted by the Archbishop of Canterbury. The report, Silent No More, commissioned by the Christian relief and development agency Tearfund, is a self-critical look at the way in which churches have responded to sexual violence in three African countries that have been or are still facing conflict.
amfAR briefing highlights roadmap to accelerating an HIV prevention revolution

As part of amfAR’s emerging issues series, a briefing was held on Capitol Hill, in Washington, D.C. on 9 March entitled "Accelerating an HIV Prevention Revolution: A Roadmap". Speaking at the briefing, UNAIDS Deputy Executive Director Paul De Lay stressed the need to scale up combination HIV prevention worldwide.

Dr Sigrun Mogedal, former Norwegian AIDS Ambassador, has received the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav for "distinguished services rendered to the country and humanity". Dr Mogedal, a physician by training, has contributed significantly towards international health cooperation.

Guest Blog: Model General Assembly held at Hulebäck secondary school Sweden highlights HIV epidemic

On Tuesday 23rd of November, the students of the IT-Media program at Hulebäck secondary school in Mölnlycke, Sweden, performed a model UN General Assembly session disucssing the AIDS epidemic. The whole day was a role play, where students acted as delegates from different United Nations member states. Before the big day we prepared ourselves, learning about the HIV epidemic, our respective adopted countries and international cooperation. As an example, we were visited by a person living with HIV, who spoke about his experience.

UNAIDS convenes consultation on sport for global advocacy

Sport has a special ability to unify and galvanize people all over the world and therefore is a powerful vehicle for advocacy at the global down to the community level. In light of the potential of sports for AIDS advocacy, UNAIDS organized a consultation with representatives of several sports organizations and other experts from 24-26 October in Geneva to examine current initiatives and ideas for future activities.
