The First Lady of Ghana, Lordina Mahama, has agreed to become UNAIDS premiere ambassador for the implementation of the Global Plan towards the elimination of new HIV infections among children by 2015 and keeping their mothers alive.

The First Lady of Niger, Aïssata Issoufou Mahamadou and UNAIDS Executive Director, Michel Sidibé met the women during their visit recently to the maternity clinic, which is a model for the rest of the country.

She made her commitment during the official launch of her foundation, “Guri, for a better life,” on 28 March in Niamey, Niger.

On 7 March, the eve of International Women's Day, Sierra Leone’s First Lady Alice Sia Nyama Koroma hosted a dinner in Freetown, where efforts to improve health services for women and children were showcased. The First Lady recently launched a campaign towards eliminating new HIV infections among children in partnership with UNAIDS, Voice of Women and the National AIDS Control Programme.
Global Fund resumes funding of a full-scale HIV programme in Mali

Friends of UN Plus launched in Liberia

UNAIDS and Standard Bank Group partner to bring HIV awareness to the workplace

The Standard Bank Group (SBG) and UNAIDS formalised, on 22 November, what had already been a long-term collaboration in the response to AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa. They signed an official memorandum of understanding (MoU) for an initial period of two years to further collaborate on AIDS education and advocacy initiatives in the workplace.
Benin’s Head of State calls for shared responsibility in the national AIDS response

At an extraordinary session of Benin’s National AIDS Committee on 23 October, President Boni Yayi called for a series of measures to accelerate progress in the country’s AIDS response. Held at the Palais des Congrès in Cotonou, the session was attended by more than 350 participants, including ministers, ambassadors and representatives from the private sector, civil society, networks of people living with HIV, and United Nations agencies.
