Opening of AIDS 2012

The Executive Director of UNAIDS Michel Sidibé will be among the high-level speakers at the official opening of AIDS 2012 which is taking place from 19:00–21:00 on Sunday 22 July in Washington DC. The Conference will bring together the world’s top AIDS researchers, community leaders, and other stakeholders. An estimated 25,000 attendees are expected to attend AIDS 2012, which will take place from 22 to 27 July under the theme “Turning the Tide Together”.

UNAIDS will have a strong presence at the Conference––which is the premier gathering for people working in the field of HIV, policy makers, people living with HIV and others committed to ending the epidemic. UNAIDS will lead discussions on where we are in the response, evaluate recent scientific developments and lessons learnt, and collectively chart a course forward in the response to HIV.

The Director of UNAIDS Regional Support Team for Eastern and Southern Africa, Ms Shelia Tlou has been invited to speak at the plenary session on Monday 23 July. Her topic will be: Turning the Tide in Affected Countries: Leadership, Accountability and Targets.

UNAIDS’ Director of Evidence, Innovation and Policy Bernhard Schwartlander has been invited to speak at Tuesday’s plenary session on 24 July. His topic will be: What Will It Take to Turn the Tide?
