Mission to Swaziland, March 2005

While in Swaziland, UNAIDS Executive Director Dr Peter Piot visited the Mambatfweni community in Nhlambeni. The community comprises a number of integrated AIDS projects including Neighbourhood Care Points, which provide vulnerable children with daily hot meals, the chance to play with other children, as well as education and psychosocial support; indlunkhulu fields, where food is grown on land allocated by the Chief for orphaned and vulnerable children in the chiefdom; and a number of support programmes for People Living with HIV and AIDS.

Here, the UNAIDS Executive Director visits another Mambatfweni community project, a kaGogo Centre (Grandmother's Place), which provides food and other services to vulnerable children.

UNAIDS Executive Director meets Lindiwe Lamini, the Assistant Administrator of the Mambatfweni community. Dr Piot is accompanied by Dr. Derek von Wissel, Director, National Emergency Response Council on HIV and AIDS.

Orphaned or vulnerable children at one of a number of a Neighbourhood Care Points in Swaziland, where vulnerable children can come every day for a hot meal, the chance to play with other children, as well as receive education and psychosocial support.
