From 31 May to 2 June 2006, national delegations led by Heads of State/Government or Ministers, representatives from UN organizations, civil society (including young people) and the private sector gathered at United Nations Headquarters (UNHQ) for the 2006 High-Level Meeting on AIDS. The meeting was held to review progress in implementing the ‘Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS’, the blueprint for global action on AIDS that was adopted at the 2001 UN General Assembly Special Session on HIV/AIDS. The summit consists of plenary meetings, a civil society hearing, panel discussions and round tables, as well as substantive side events.
