Sex workers learn business skills in new community-based ILO project

Abel Shinana, the late Coordinator of African Sex Workers Alliance in Namibia, was a courageous and vocal advocate for the rights of sex workers, people living with HIV and the LGBTI population. Migration plays an integral role in Thailand’s economic development and the country hosts more than five million migrants from Cambodia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic and Myanmar. Many find themselves in situations that heighten their risk of HIV and have difficulty accessing key services such as antiretroviral therapy (ART). Partners in the region are exploring ways of ensuring better provision of ART to this potentially vulnerable group.
Young people present first-ever ‘crowdsourced’ recommendations for AIDS response in UN history

Youth leaders from around the world today presented a set of youth-defined recommendations that will guide the UNAIDS Secretariat’s work on HIV and young people through 2015. The recommendations were received by UNAIDS Executive Director Michel Sidibé at an event in the Paiko community near Abuja, organized together with Nigerian youth leaders and government officials.

For Zambia’s young people the AIDS response has seen a number of important successes, with a significant 25% decline in HIV incidence over the last decade. However, according to a groundbreaking new report, the AIDS epidemic continues to have a huge effect on the country’s youth, especially young women, and much more needs to be done to achieve an HIV-free generation.
UNAIDS welcomes new guidelines which give an additional HIV prevention option to discordant couples

New guidelines have been issued encouraging couples to go together for HIV testing in order to know their HIV status. The guidelines, released by the World Health Organization (WHO), also recommend that in couples who are serodiscordant—where one partner is living with HIV and the other not—antiretroviral therapy is offered to the person living with HIV to prevent his or her partner from becoming infected with the virus.
West Indies cricketers support UNAIDS vision of eliminating new HIV infections among children
