UNAIDS Governing body, the Programme Coordinating Board (PCB), is holding its 24th meeting in Geneva from 22-24 June 2009 where Mr Michel Sidibé, addressing the board for the first time as UNAIDS Executive Director, will present progress made and his vision for future action.

A home from home for children living with HIV

Viva Cazuza has been working for nearly two decades in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to give orphaned children and young people living with HIV a safe haven, antiretroviral treatment and access to programmes to gain confidence and build leadership skills. The society was created in 1990 in the memory of Brazilian rock star Cazuza who died of an AIDS-related illness in the same year.

Collaboration between TB and HIV services helps save lives

On World TB Day 2009 the challenge remains to have closer collaboration between TB and HIV services to make sure people are tested for both diseases and have universal access to the HIV and TB treatment.

Addressing TB and HIV as linked infections is at the heart of the approach of the Desmond Tutu TB clinic in Stellenbosch in South Africa’s Western Cape.

UNAIDS Executive Director addresses opening of the Commission on the Status of Women

At the opening of the 53rd session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), UNAIDS Executive Director Michel Sidibé gave a keynote address calling for bold, collective action to achieve universal access and to achieve gender equality. This year’s Commission, which runs until 13 March at the United Nations headquarters in New York, considers the theme: “The equal sharing of responsibilities between women and men, including care giving in the context of HIV/AIDS.”

UNAIDS delivers a strong message at the 23 TEDDY Award in Berlin

UNAIDS Executive Director Mr Michel Sidibé addressed the audience of the 23rd edition of the TEDDY Award in Berlin on 13 February with a strong message: universal access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support must be accessible to all people who are in need—including men who have sex with men and other populations most-at-risk of HIV infection.

This short trailer is for “Papy”, the first episode of a film series which tells the stories of people living with HIV. It was filmed in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. The series director, Djo Tunda Wa Munga, is a Congolese filmmaker who trained at Institut National Superieur des Arts du Spectacle in Brussels.

AIDS Perspectives 2007

The UNAIDS/Face of AIDS DVD AIDS Perspectives 2007 is a seven minute collection of stories from around the world focusing on efforts taking place to respond to AIDS. Linking to the 2007 World AIDS Day theme of ‘Leadership’, the film focuses on young people and the work they are doing to lead the AIDS response into future. The film contains clips from Cambodia, USA, Mexico, the Russian Federation, Botswana and India.
