Yousra, Goodwill Ambassador for the Middle East and North Africa

Egyptian actress and singer Yousra was appointed as a UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador for the Middle East and North Africa at an event held in Cairo, Egypt, on 31 January 2016. In her role, Yousra focuses on advancing the AIDS response in the region, underlining the importance of eliminating stigma and discrimination against people living with and affected by HIV and of empowering women. Yousra is a champion for the implementation and financing of the Arab AIDS Strategy. Her engagement contributes significantly to ensuring a Fast-Track response to HIV in the region, towards the goal of ending AIDS by 2030.

Yousra is an Egyptian actress and singer who has appeared in films, on television and in the theatre. She enjoys regional and international recognition and has received more than 50 awards from national, regional and international film festivals for her work.

Yousra is also known for her humanitarian work and for many years has been playing a leadership role in promoting the development agenda, highlighting key social issues, such as poverty, gender-based violence and inequalities, child trafficking and abuse, and stigma. She has shown exceptional commitment to the AIDS response in many regional and national events, not only in Egypt but in the rest of North Africa.

She was ranked the 12th most influential Arab woman by Arabian Business in 2013 and is considered as one of the most influential icons in the region.
