Michael Maldony, Director (a.i.), Information Communication Technology
Michael Maldony, Director (a.i.), Digital and Technology Solutions, joined UNAIDS in 2024 and is based in the Global Hub in Bonn. Mr Maldony has held a range of senior digital and technology leadership roles across international organisations, including at the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and the Green Climate Fund (GCF), as well as in the United States with various government organisations.
Mr Maldony has extensive experience in developing digital strategies that support organizational goals, enhance service delivery, and improve the management of knowledge and data. His background covers enterprise architecture and governance, AI, cloud and collaboration platforms, cybersecurity, portfolio and program delivery, and major business systems modernization, with a consistent focus on practical adoption and measurable value.
In his role at UNAIDS, Mr Maldony concentrates on enhancing the reliability and user experience of core digital services, promoting modern work methods, and strengthening digital governance across projects, data, and AI. He emphasizes collaborating closely with colleagues worldwide to ensure technology investments are secure, sustainable, and aligned with UNAIDS’ mission.
Mr Maldony holds graduate and undergraduate degrees in diplomacy and international security from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., and has supplemented these with professional certifications in IT service management, program and portfolio governance, and enterprise architecture.
