Defining the response to the AIDS epidemic in the Asia–Pacific region
The Asia–Pacific Intergovernmental Meeting on HIV and AIDS was held in Bangkok, Thailand. More than 250 representatives of governments, civil society and international organizations from across the region assessed progress on the response to the AIDS epidemic and considered challenges for the future. The prestigious Prince Mahidol Award Conference took place in Bangkok during the same week.

New Champions join efforts for an AIDS-free generation in Africa
Ahead of the African Union Summit, the Champions for an AIDS-Free Generation (Champions) announced that four leaders are joining their distinguished ranks. Former Presidents of Malawi, Mali, Nigeria and South Africa are among the new Champions committing to Fast-Tracking access to HIV prevention and treatment services in sub-Saharan Africa.

35th meeting of the UNAIDS Programme Coordinating Board
The 35th meeting of the UNAIDS Programme Coordinating Board reaffirmed its commitment to ending AIDS as a public health threat by 2030 and encouraged United Nations Member States to push for this goal to be fully reflected in the final agreement on the post-2015 development agenda. Participants and observers from United Nations Member States, international organizations, civil society and nongovernmental organizations attended the meeting, which was chaired by Australia, with Zimbabwe as Vice-Chair and El Salvador as Rapporteur.

UNAIDS Fast-Track event inspires a new generation of activism
On 18 November, the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), welcomed UNAIDS onto its prestigious campus for the launch of the 2014 UNAIDS World AIDS Day report, Fast-Track: ending the AIDS epidemic by 2030. Held for the first time in Los Angeles, the World AIDS Day report launch brought together students, policy-makers, scientists, AIDS advocates and celebrities to create a new movement of solidarity around ending the AIDS epidemic by 2030.

The many faces of a Cambodian entertainment worker
Sopheap became an entertainment worker in Phnom Penh, Cambodia because she wanted to leave behind the poverty that often kept her hungry at night. While she now makes enough to support her family, she welcomes the Cambodian Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training new ministerial regulation which recognizes entertainment workers as having the same rights as other workers. The regulation protects entertainment workers from violence, sexual harassment, excessive working hours and low pay, forced labour, including forced alcohol consumption.

UNAIDS and Global Fund joint visit to Namibia
UNAIDS Executive Director Michel Sidibé and the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Executive Director, Dr Mark Dybul travelled to Namibia from 3-4 November to discuss the national AIDS response with high-level political leadership, civil society, beneficiaries, representatives of UN agencies, and multilateral partner organisations.
